Christian Action for Renewal and Development (CARD) was founded in 1999 by a group of Christians in the New York/New Jersey Metropolitan area answering a calling to serve the most vulnerable among us. Driven by a mission deeply rooted in faith, compassion, and service, we are committed to providing seniors and youths with the essential resources for leading healthy, productive lives.
We envision ourselves as a bridge connecting generations, fostering unity, mutual understanding, and growth within our community. Founded on the belief that serving humanity is our shared responsibility, we remain steadfast in our mission, ensuring all individuals, regardless of background, are afforded the dignity they deserve.
We believe in serving humanity, especially the vulnerable, through our Christian love and commitment.
Envisioning a society where seniors and youth thrive, breaking barriers, exchanging wisdom, and realizing potential.
Christian Action for Renewal & Development (CARD) seeks to serve seniors and youth in the New York Metropolitan area through the development of intergenerational programs in the areas of affordable housing, healthcare and education.
CARD was founded by the late Rt. Rev. Stanley F. Thomas, who felt the urge to start a dialogue with some members of the New York Metropolitan Moravian Churches about the need to address some of the social ills of society, especially as it relates to seniors and youths.
After a few meetings with prayer and extensive brainstorming, the idea and vision shared with the group began taking shape. It was clear that they were focusing on an organization that would seek to address senior housing, the lack of affordable healthcare, as well as creating programs that would cater to the youth, thus helping them to realize their God-given potential.
In September of 1999, the name Christian Action for Renewal and Development was agreed upon. The name embodies who we are and what we are about. A closer examination of the name reveals the following:
This speaks to who we are and our spiritual foundations. We are a group of Christians drawn together by a common bond to do service to mankind, particularly those who are the most vulnerable amongst us.
This speaks to the burning desire the group had to take action and make a difference to the lives of those they set out to serve. We are committed to bring about change.
This exemplifies our dedication to rejuvenate hope in people's lives, desire to make a difference as they try to change the lives of hurting people through the programs they set out to develop, and in the end, give the recipient renewed hope.
This highlights our resolve to develop programs for positive impact.
In June of 2000, an application was submitted to the State Department for articles of incorporation as a Not For Profit in the state of New York. The application was finally approved in October 2001. This was followed by the filing of application to the Internal Revenue Service for granting of Tax exemption Status as a 501 c3 Not For profit organization.
In March 2004, they were granted tax exempt status.
Over the years, CARD has awarded over forty thousand dollars ($40,000) in scholarships to first-year college students, igniting their educational journeys. These funds go beyond monetary aid—they reflect our commitment to empowering the next generation. Simultaneously, in partnership with local congregations, CARD have donated over thirty five thousand dollars ($35,000) towards their feeding program, nourishing our community with more than just meals. Together, these efforts mark our dedication to fostering both mind and body, creating a ripple of change that begins with individuals and resonates through the entire community. Each action we take, from providing scholarships to serving meals, underscores CARD's promise to enrich lives and fortify our shared future.
These passionate individuals guide our mission, using their unique skills and shared commitment to create lasting impact. Together, they're not just making decisions - they're making a difference. Get to know the people powering C.A.R.D. today.
